Pupils were assessed in year 1 using the '2024 Phonics Screening Check' paper (available below). This screening check assessed how well a child can use their understanding of phonics to decode real words and nonsense (pseudo) words.

The pass mark for the 2024 Phonics Screening Check was 32 out of 40. This means children needed to correctly read at least 32 of the 40 words aloud to their teacher.
